Guest Service Ambassador

What's the most important thing you learned about travel?

It was on my first overseas trip that I quickly discovered how daunting and confusing a foreign country can be. I was away from home, immersed in a new culture, facing a language barrier and finding my way, when I met someone who went out of their way to help me and welcome me. It was then, I made a promise to myself to try and be more like that person, who has since had such a big influence on the level of service I offer guests at Park Hyatt Melbourne. Now I look back and realise how exciting it is to see and discover new places and the unexpected. I feel truly blessed to live in Melbourne and I want everyone who comes to this city to walk away knowing that they have visited one of the great cities of the world.

What is your favourite cultural place to walk to from your hotel?

I love to walk down to Federation Square, a modern, open space in the heart of city where you can meet friends for a quick coffee or watch as the people of Melbourne walk by. Overlooking the iconic Flinders Street Station, the beautiful St Paul’s Cathedral and Melbourne’s Yarra River there is no better place to soak up the hustle and bustle of the city.  Federation Square always reminds me that the people of Melbourne passionately embrace the city’s heritage and its vibrant, ever evolving culture and look forward to tomorrow and welcome what the day will bring.

You have $15 to spend on lunch, where would you eat? If you had $500?

For a delicious lunch on a smaller budget, I would go straight to Pho Nom. Offering fantastic hawker style food at very reasonable prices, Pho Nom has just what you need for a quick bite. Pho Nom is located on the Lower Level of the Emporium.

For a special occasion that you will want to remember, I suggest visit Vue De Monde at the top of the Rialto. Under the guidance of Chef Shannon Bennett, his team creates a dining experience that is truly amazing – it is imperative to book well in advance though, as Melbourne is lining up to be a part of this.

What have guests been asking about lately? What kind of experiences are they looking for?

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining in Melbourne; our hotel is ideally located within walking distance to some of the best cafes and restaurants the city has to offer.

Our famous laneways are still as popular as ever for a coffee, ciabatta or baguette, however more and more our guests are seeking unique experiences such as wine tasting in the Yarra Valley, visiting the Twelve Apostles or sailing along the Mornington Peninsula in complete luxury.

Our team works closely with a number of private tour companies throughout Melbourne to ensure reliable, memorable and personalised experiences for our guests. At Park Hyatt, we pride ourselves truly listening to our guests, finding out exactly what they are looking for and then providing the experience of a lifetime.

If you had 24 hours in Melbourne what would you do and where would you go?

I would start my day with breakfast at Cumulus Inc. in Flinders Lane, then I would  visit the National Gallery of Victoria and admire the latest in world art.  I would then take a trip on the free City Circle tram which gives you an amazing overview of our city with commentary, stopping at Degraves Street to grab a coffee as I watch the world go by.

I would enjoy lunch at Chin Chin in Flinders Lane, followed by a walk to Southbank, along the iconic Yarra River. As dusk approaches, I would make my way to Eureka Tower Sky Deck and soak up the breathtaking views of Melbourne at sunset before making my way to dinner at Sake, a contemporary Japanese restaurant at Hamer Hall. I would then finish the day at Siglo Bar, one of Melbourne’s best kept secrets where I would plan my next visit to this beautiful city.

What is your favorite piece of artwork in the hotel?

With some many unique pieces here at the hotel, I am spoilt for choice, however my favourite work is called “The Kiss “ – a hand blown glass sculpture from Murano, Venice located in our lobby.  I love the way it captures the light at different times of the day.

Tell us about a rare and unique experience you have curated for guests in your location?

I recently had the opportunity to organise a helicopter flight along the Great Ocean Road for an overseas guest, which they enjoyed immensely. It was both their first time in a helicopter and first time seeing the grandeur that is the Great Ocean Road – an unbeatable combination, in my opinion.

Is there one other Park Hyatt hotel and resort in particular you love or are dying to visit?

I would love to stay at Park Hyatt Maldives and experience the unparalleled luxury that they are known for.
